While you’re celebrating with your nearest and dearest this holiday season, keep in mind that the season is about giving unto others, too! Here are eight ways to spread cheer in your town to those in need:
1. Hitting the kitchen.
With the help of the handy, dandy Internet to guide you, you don’t have to be America’s Next Top Sous Chef to make something yummy and thoughtful in the kitchen for your loved ones. And, there are endless holiday possibilities when it comes to baked goods!
2. Homemade Christmas crafts.
Being thankful is not just for Thanksgiving, and anything DIY is an easy (and inexpensive) way to thank your support system for everything that they helped you achieve over the past year. Plus, what a great way to bust out your hidden artistic skills!
3. Host a gift exchange.
Whether through a White Elephant, a Secret Santa, or a straight-up gift-giving party, nothing puts a smile on somebody else’s face faster than by knowing that they’re appreciated.
4. Giving back.
There are so many ways to give back to your community over the holidays! Need an idea? Organize a canned food drive at a local community center for non-perishable food, toys, and clothing.
5. Going caroling.
You don’t have to be a rock star to sing, and everyone loves carolers around the holidays! Round up your cheer team to hit the neighborhood, local hospital, or retirement home for a sing-a-long full of holiday tunes!
6. Host the Winter Olympics.
Obviously, this doesn’t mean the actual Olympics. Instead, do your own version of it with Olympic-themed activities at an ice-skating rink. Make the event official with an opening ceremony, and handing out medals to the winners.
7. Sign up for a pen pal.
Hand-written letters aren’t a thing of the past, so spread cheer outside of your community this winter break by signing up for a pen pal somewhere else in the world. And, by doing so, you promote global connectivity! It’s a win-win!
8. Give compliments.
It sounds simple, because it is! Compliments are the best medicine to turn any frown upside down, so open up to the people around you by making them feel good.
These are just some examples of how to spread cheer this holiday season, and the whole point is to get creative! Who knows?? Whatever you decide to do might turn into a holiday tradition, year after year. From all of us at CheerLiving: merry Christmas to all, and to all, a good night!
